Can chromium doping meet the dual requirements of high-precision grinding and mounted points durability?
-
Batch consistency, chemical purity, particle size distribution (PSD), and particle shape (self-sharpening) are common concerns and requirements for pink fused aluminum oxide as an abrasive material. Particle size distribution affects cutting consistency and surface waviness, while subtle changes in PSD can affect Ra values and rework rates. The unique properties of particle shape provide consistent micro-cutting, reducing the risk of heat buildup and discoloration.
However, product cleanliness (low iron content/soluble salts) is also crucial for metal surfaces and optical components to prevent subsequent coating or bonding failure. Therefore, combining these requirements and specificities achieves the ultimate in precision and surface finishes.

When chrome corundum is used for grinding, more emphasis is placed on surface quality and controllable MRR. However, when pink fused alumina is used for grinding wheel heads, more emphasis is placed on parameters such as pressure resistance, heat resistance, and binder compatibility.

When using pink fused aluminum oxide in grinding wheel tips (e.g., for normal cutting and lapping applications), particular emphasis is placed on particle strength (resistance to chipping), thermal stability, compatibility with the binder (resin/ceramic/metal), and overall wheel strength (HMOR). Focus is placed on particle resistance to chipping and toughness to extend wheel life and recyclability. Excellent thermal stability and thermal conductivity are also important.
Of particular importance is the often-mentioned binder compatibility: different particle sizes and surface active treatments (silane, pickling) influence the bond with the resin or ceramic binder.
To meet the diverse needs of our customers, we offer a variety of data analysis reports including XRF/ICP, laser PSD (d10/d50/d90), SEM particle cross-sections, TGA/DSC thermal spectra, bench MRR (standard working conditions), and grinding wheel HMOR/life testing (standard dress/cutting conditions). We also provide free samples. Please feel free to view more or leave a message for inquiries.
